Vernita Dell Mayfield was born on June 3, 1924, in Okemah, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 85.
Vernita, the daughter of Vernie B. and Bertha Dell (Walls) Fipps, was a lifelong resident of Paden. She married Ray Mayfield on September 27, 1943, in Paden. Vernita was a homemaker, worked as a school teacher during World War II, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paden. Her parents and her stepmother, Olas Fipps, preceded Vernita in death.
Survivors include husband, Ray Mayfield of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Karen Mayfield of Paden; daughters and son-in-law, Norma and Howard Crawford of Paden, Linda Parrish of Paden; grandchildren, Amy, Julie, Travis, Melissa, Amber and Michael; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Maxenne and Denny Harwell of Shawnee, Kay Drain of Gene Autry; many other relatives and friends.
